FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18)- A House Bill could change the structure of the Teachers’ Retirement System Board of Trustees.
HB 525 was filed by Republican Representative Ken Upchurch of the 52nd district. The bill seeks to change the general administration and management of the board and its responsibility for “proper operation.”
Upchurch wants the board to be comprised of the chief state school officer, the state treasurer, two trustees appointed by the Governor, as well as several analysts and seven trustees elected by the current standards set forth in the organization’s bylaws.
The bill will be heard in a committee Thursday at noon.
KEA’s president, Stephanie J. Winkler is urging supporters of the education organization to call legislatures and vote ‘NO’ on the bill.
