FEB. 28 – Supporters Asked to Attend Hearing Planned for New Pension Bill

Senator Joe Bowen’s office has confirmed that the plan is to hear SB 1 in the Senate’s State and Local Government Committee meeting next Wednesday, February 28 at noon in room 154 of the Capital Annex.  Members of the Senate State Government Committee are as follows:

The following appeared in the Lexington Herald Leader yesterday (2/21/18):

The bill’s primary sponsor, state Sen. Joe Bowen, said he does not anticipate any “push-back” from teachers or other public employees. That’s just as well, Bowen said, because lawmakers aren’t going to accept changes to the bill even if people do raise objections.

It is time to show the General Assembly that we are serious about protecting our earned benefits.

Reducing our 1.5%, prepaid cost of living adjustment to .75% uses just under $4 billion dollars of our money, to bail-out the state.

Our legislators refuse to reform Kentucky’s antiquated tax system or eliminate some of the $13 Billion of tax expenditures. However, they are willing to short change retired teachers who earned their retirement benefits.

Let’s let them know how important these benefits are to retired teachers. Please make an effort to be in Frankfort next Wednesday to show support for retired teachers benefits.

If you are not able to attend please continue to call your legislators or catch up with them over the week end back at home and voice your unhappiness with SB 1.
